Farthest Frontier is a complex real-time strategy game with a deep economic component that takes players to a world inspired by the European Middle Ages. The game was developed by the independent studio Crate Entertainment, which previously delivered the best-selling hack and slash game Grim Dawn. Mechanics In Farthest Frontier, players assume the role of administrator of a settlement located on the fringes of the known world. Their task is to guide its development, transforming it from a small village composed primarily of wooden buildings into a thriving city. During the game, we shoulder numerous responsibilities. We oversee the extraction of raw materials, which we use to construct various structures. Over fifty structures await construction – from houses and public buildings, through various workshops (capable of crafting over sixty unique items) and warehouses, to defensive structures such as barracks, where we recruit soldiers (the soldiers must be appropriately equipped), watchtowers, and palisades (replaced by stone walls as we progress). These latter are crucial because, over time, our settlement begins to attract the attention of enemies hoping for easy loot. Furthermore, production buildings can be upgraded, increasing their capabilities. Food acquisition also plays a significant role. Agriculture primarily provides food for our subjects (though hunting and fishing are also worthwhile). During the game, we decide which crops will be grown in each field, while also ensuring crop rotation to prevent soil depletion. After satisfying the needs of our citizens, we can also consider selling surplus resources and finished products. It's worth remembering that goods have different values in different regions. Even if we do everything right, various external factors can take their toll on our settlement. Heatwaves or frosts (as well as hungry deer) can destroy even the most well-tended crops, bears pose a threat not only to the inhabitants but also to food storage facilities, and groundwater can dry up if we overdo tree felling. As if that weren't enough, the settlement is threatened by a dozen different diseases. Lack of access to clean water can lead to an outbreak of dysentery or cholera, failure to provide subjects with appropriate clothing and footwear exposes them to tetanus or rabies, and failure to control rats (whose numbers increase with the amount of waste on the streets and the poorer our ability to secure stored food) can lead to an epidemic of the plague. ..::TECH-DATA::..
