Skies above the Great War takes us back to the times of World War I, or more precisely, to its Western Front. During the game, we take on the role of an air force commander and can stand on both sides of the conflict (i.e. lead the Entente or the Central Powers). Skies above the Great War gives us a map with an area of 10,000 square kilometers. As the war situation is simulated in real time, our actions and choices often influence the situation on the entire front. The gameplay here is based on two pillars. The first are strategic elements, which involve recruiting pilots, providing them with access to machines and airports, and sending them on various missions. The latter involves, among other things, reconnaissance and patrolling the front, bombing designated targets and taking part in air battles. The second pillar of the game is the ability to take direct control of the plane and take personal part in the mission. Although the controls are arcade, the sky battles can be demanding - mainly because the planes are damaged in a realistic way. Since the pilots are differentiated in terms of talent, the key to success is the appropriate selection of soldiers for specific tasks. Additionally, as we progress, we can train them, which over time allows them to carry out more and more complex missions. Interestingly, the list of names may include figures known from history. Moreover, as we progress, we are strengthening cooperation with aircraft manufacturers such as Fokker and Sopwith, who are constantly working on new models that could turn the tide of war. The game also allows us to modify the appearance of machines using various paint patterns and insignia. Skies above the Great War runs on the Godot engine. The three-dimensional graphics don't look particularly impressive - but it is worth remembering that the game is on a large scale and was created by one man. ..::TECH DATA::..
