Maddy (Jennifer Lawrence) has been living in coastal Montague all her life. When a small town begins to be populated by the rich, housing taxes and prices rise, displacing locals with their small salaries. The heroine risks losing her parents' house, the car will already be confiscated for non-payment of taxes, and along with the car, the chance to work as an Uber driver. Out of desperation, Maddy is looking for a part—time job, but comes across an ad from a wealthy family - they promise a car in return for the services of a young girl who can get their teenage son Percy (Andrew Bart Feldman) out of the shell: sex is also included in the package. Maddy agrees to a seemingly simple mission, but the guy doesn't want to crawl out of the shell, so she has to take extreme measures. The promo campaign promised a lot: firstly, Jennifer Lawrence's comeback from the decree, and secondly, an "old-fashioned comedy" like "American pie", which the audience missed so much. But Jennifer returned last year with the smaller-scale film "Bridge over the Lake," and expecting a breakthrough from the director of "Very Bad Teacher" Gene Stupnitsky, who can bring cinemas back to life, is like waiting for a rainstorm in the desert. But the promo worked anyway, Jennifer's fandom picked up the hype around the release, and media personalities called for saving cinemas and voting with coins. But, no offense, the "old-fashioned" comedy did not fulfill its promises. If in the first minutes the director raises the topic of gentrification and the gap between the working and middle classes, then by the middle of the timing he completely forgets about the set course, leaving us alone with jokes below the belt and naked Jennifer Lawrence, absurdly running after hooligans on the beach. Performative activism comes to naught when the focus of the film narrows to the perspective of a poor, rich boy fixated on psychological trauma and refusing to live a full life because of self-doubt. The needs of a homeless Maddie fade into the background without five minutes, if Percy's feelings are even a little hurt, she gets a wrecked car for a job successfully done. At this point, the comedy turns into a "Field of Miracles" from hell, 1-0 in favor of the rich, spoiling the ecosystem of the resort of Montauk. Criticism of capitalism is swept under the carpet, as if the topic had not been brought up at all. "American Pie", like other comedies of the early noughties, became famous for a number of reasons: the scrapping of taboo topics, the lack of quotas for ass jokes, a frantic plot that terribly irritates conservative adults. "Old—fashioned" comedies stopped being released for the same reason they stopped making silent films - society has changed, progress is reflected in pop culture, and for "as before" and a dose of nostalgia, you can always turn to the archives. Therefore, "No Offense" is hardly an old-fashioned comedy, rather a ridiculous attempt to make people laugh with banana peel and heart-rending antics. Without Jennifer Lawrence, it would just be another passing romcom that barely recouped its budget after being released on streaming. The performance of the actress will appeal to fans, and the world will also discover the young talent of Andrew Bart Feldman, successfully trying his hand at the big screen after the Broadway stage. After the marketing campaign subsides, the movie will be forgotten and buried online, unlike the same "American pie" that "No offense" tried to look up to
