Textbook in PDF format This is a book for the second course in linear algebra whereby students are assumed to be familiar with calculations using real matrices. To facilitate a smooth transition into rigorous proofs, it combines abstract theory with matrix calculations. We present numerous examples and proofs of particular cases of important results before the general versions are formulated and proved. We noticed in many years of teaching that a proof of a particular case which captures the main idea of the general theorem has a major impact on the depth of understanding of the general theory. Reading simpler and more manageable proofs is also more likely to encourage students to work with proofs. Students can try to prove another particular case or the general case using the knowledge gained from the particular case. For some theorems we give two or even three proofs. In this way we give students an opportunity to see important results from different angles and at the same time to see connections between different results presented in the book
