These are not the romantic, crystal-toned versions of Jean-Yves Thibaudet, et al, but careful recreations of Satie's odd world by a pianist best known for his performances of John Cage and Morton Feldman. I'd say these recordings come closest to what Satie had in mind with pieces like the Gymnopedies and Gnossienes: this is Satie for people sick of hearing his pieces played like make-out music.
