American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This rebroadcast is one of many I have recorded from internet radio. Back in 1972, some stations refused to play the song on AT40, even when it reached number one. One song in the countdown comes from an album that was rejected by 12 record companies in a row. Casey answers the question, "Was there ever a year female recording acts had more number one hits than male recording acts."
