American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This rebroadcast is one of many I have recorded from internet radio. A few are incomplete but most are not and I hope you enjoy these as much as I do. In this broadcast: We hear about the first song ever to hit number one using rap, and the rapper was a woman. Casey answers the question, "How many songs have predicted how high they will go in their titles?" (Such as "One Of These Nights" by the Eagles hit number one, and "#9 Dream" by John Lennon hit number 9.) Casey lists twelve. Casey tells about the woman who holds the record between first chart appearance, and finally reaching number one (24 years). She's in the countdown. Bruce Willis (Moonlighting/Die Hard) has a song in the countdown. Casey plays a piece of the first hit song to ever come from a motion picture, from 1927! One woman in the countdown set a new record on the soul chart by having her fourth number one hit from the same album.
