That basic formula is what won him a loyal fan following, a record deal with Warner/Chappell Music, and landed his songs on such television hits as "Lost" and "Grey's Anatomy." Yet in the few years since his hit "Julie Blue" caught critics' attention, Purdy has taken a few steps back, left Hollywood and now proudly proclaims he self-releases his records and "likes it that way." Purdy's music is as stripped down and simple as his back-to-basics life on his latest 10-track album, "Last Clock on the Wall." "Brown Suits and Cadillacs" tells the story of love between childhood sweethearts with such lyrics as "I left your house/with my hair all a mess/and all I can think/of was your blue summer dress/and the way that you kissed me/and the way that your kiss has a way." Other songs, such as "Dress Is Too Long" and "Miss Me," have that same laid-back, rustic feel with the addition of fiddle, harmonica and a few other instruments on some of the song. "I wanted the music to sort of float around the vocals and not get in the way of anything," Purdy said in an interview. "I wanted it to sound like an old record off an old record player [so I worked] very much within those frequencies." In an over-processed world, Purdy's tunes are a return to simpler pleasures...
