"Once a week with AT40 and you know how your favorite songs are doing across the USA." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio. In this countdown: A listener wants to know what song, in chart history, has made the biggest leap to get to the number one spot. Casey says the same act on the same week also occupied the number 2, 3, 4, and 5 positions. Casey tells us whatever happened to the band Blondie. The man who taught America to "get down" has his 44th chart appearance. Casey remembers the first single to ever earn the number one spot on the pop, soul, and country charts during the summer and fall of 1956. Casey answers the question, "What top 40 hit has had the longest song title?" Casey says it was a song about some tasty, effective, multi-colored medicine, and the title contained 14 words and 90 letters. "The Sweetest Taboo" (by Sade) is at number 16 so Casey explains the origin of the word "taboo." Casey says since the charts began there have been at least a dozen foreign-language song titles.
