"You're listening to American Top 40's weekly survey of the biggest hits from Green Bay to Brownsville; from Billings to Birmingham. I'm Casey Kasem." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio. In this countdown: There is a "one week wonder." "Dance Across The Floor" by Jimmy "Bo" Horne debuts at number 38 this week and falls off the chart next week. There is also a disco remake of a song by the most successful songwriting team in the history of the chart. They were responsible for 40 chart hits and 12 number one songs. Casey gives the details. There is a movie song in the countdown by a singer who Casey says has hit the chart 56 times using 4 different professional names and 3 different voices. A listener wants to know what have been the three the biggest TV series hit themes. Casey lists all three number one hits, two from the 70's and the biggest from the 50's. There is the latest hit by a man who earned 12 gold records in a span of just two years. Casey has the details. A listener asks, "When was American Top 40 founded and what was the very first number one song?" Casey says the first song was "Mama Told Me Not To Come" by Three Dog Night on July 4th, 1970, and tells how far AT40 has come in the eight years since its first broadcast. From the AT40 Book of Records under the heading "Most #1 Songs on the Soul Chart in a Single Calendar Year" - Casey remembers the two groups which tie for this honor at four #1's apiece. 40: If Ever I See You Again - Roberta Flack 39: Warm Ride - Rare Earth 38: Dance Across The Floor - Jimmy "Bo" Horne 37: Stone Blue - Foghat 36: It's The Same Old Song - K.C. & The Sunshine Band 35: Runaway - Jefferson Starship 34: Thank God It's Friday - Love & Kisses 33: Heartless - Heart 32: Deacon Blues - Steely Dan 31: Grease - Frankie Valli 30: Only The Good Die Young - Billy Joel 29: I Can't Stand The Rain - Eruption 28: Almost Summer - Celebration featuring Mike Love 27: Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton 26: With A Little Luck - Paul McCartney & Wings 25: Miss You - The Rolling Stones 24: Oh What A Night For Dancing - Barry White 23: Follow You, Follow Me - Genesis 22: I Was Only Joking - Rod Stewart 21: On Broadway - George Benson 20: Last Dance - Donna Summer 19: Even Now - Barry Manilow 18: You're The Love - Seals & Crofts 17: Bluer Than Blue - Michael Johnson 16: Every Kind Of People - Robert Palmer 15: Feels So Good - Chuck Mangione 14: Too Much Too Little Too Late - Johnny Mathis and Denise Williams 13: Because The Night - The Patty Smythe Group 12: Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad - Meat Loaf 11: The Groove Line - Heat Wave 10: Dance With Me - Peter Brown 9: Still The Same - Bob Seger 8: Love Is Like Oxygen - Sweet 7: Used To Be My Girl - The O'Jays 6: You Belong To Me - Carly Simon 5: Take A Chance On Me - ABBA 4: You're The One That I Want - John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John 3: It's A Heartache - Bonnie Tyler 2: Baker Street - Jerry Rafferty 1: Shadow Dancin' - Andy Gibb
