This collection of Cat Power (Chan Marshall) videos is one I've been building over several months. Many of these I have uploaded to YouTube, and others I have downloaded (and modified) from same. There is one, and only one exception to that rule which is the Glastonbury 2013 performance(s) labeled "short/unbranded". That particular video was taken from a DVD I downloaded from here and, if you look through my uploads, you'll see that it presented me with an occasion to try a special form of de-interlacing technique called the "dgbob technique"; named, not particularly imaginatively, after its inventor "Donald Graft Bob" (who doesn't charge royalties if you can believe it). Anyway, that same concert, only 20 minutes in length here, was in reality some 70+ minutes and was briefly made available from the well-known-to-be "Indian-Giving" (no slur intended against the *real* "Great American-Indian Peoples"), "formerly-great British" Broadcasting Corporation or BBC; a publicly funded, privately operated news, sports and entertainment production & distribution corporation whose (substantial) profits are similarly privatized. In fact, just looking it up, today's shares of "BBC News" closed up $20 USD per share on the Nasdaq exchange; a poor showing against the its showing on its own exchange the "BBC Global 30" where it closed a comfortable $50.00+ (USD) in the black. In fact, according to their own *commercial* (.co) website, "BBC News" is currently traded on 7 different international stock exchanges! [Including today's trading all in USD (this is for Friday)] 1. the FTSE, -22.87 2. Dow Jones, +67.78 3. Nasdaq, +20.61 4. Dax, +22.76 5. Cac 40, -8.45 6. the S&P 500 +10.06 7. the "BBC Global 30" exchange +50.02 Yes, they have their own stock exchange too! Not a bad catbird seat for a measly "public institution"? Eh? So, in true form, after having accidentally given away the entire show for free, somebody must have noticed the error and corrected it almost immediately before being given their 2 week's notice; cutting out (apparently, I know nobody who's actually seen it) most of the good parts of the show, very possibly (this is a TOTAL GUESS!) for later re-sale at your local BBC News outlet. Anyway … some of the videos are of high quality (like Glastonbury), and some are mediocre (like the KCRW ones) visually. Almost all are great examples where Chan Marshall really shines (in the studio - except Glastonbury!). Her performances on the Jools Holland show are duplicates (which she almost never does) of the studio recordings. So close in fact, that I played the two together to see if there was any difference! I could only detect a slight difference in timing … I have numbered the videos so that they will list in a particular order which I thought gave a better feel for variety of music while listening.
