Η Grace Kelly είναι η χωριατοπούλα του τίτλου. Ο William Holden υποδύεται τον σκηνοθέτη, σε άλλη μία πολύ καλή κινηματογραφική επιλογή από την πιο καλή παραγωγικά επταετία τη&sigmaf; ζωή&sigmaf; του (1950-1957). Τον αλκοολικό υποδύεται ο Bing Crosby σε έναν από του&sigmaf; καλύτερου&sigmaf; ρόλου&sigmaf; του. Γιατί αυτό; Επειδή έχει λιγότερο τραγούδι και περισσότερο... ερμηνεία. Το θεατρικό του Clifford Odets που μετέφερε στο πανί ο George Seaton δεν είναι ακριβώ&sigmaf; μιούζικαλ. Είναι ένα δράμα χαρακτήρων που στο παρασκήνιο υπάρχει το ανέβασμα τη&sigmaf; παράσταση&sigmaf;, αλλά στο προσκήνιο παρατηρούμε τα ψυχολογικά προβλήματα του πρωταγωνιστή, τον εθισμό του στο αλκοόλ μετά το χαμό του πεντάχρονου γιου του (μέσα από λίγα φλασμπάκ) και το ερωτικό τρίγωνο που δημιουργείται. Δύο όσκαρ κέρδισε η ταινία (α' γυναικείου για την Grace Kelly και σεναρίου) ενώ είχε άλλε&sigmaf; επτά υποψηφιότητε&sigmaf; (ταινία&sigmaf;, σκηνοθεσία&sigmaf;, α' ανδρικού, κουστουμιών για ασπρόμαυρη ταινία, φωτογραφία για ασπρόμαυρη ταινία).
